I want a variable resistor to get 24v as low as 0v. What resistance do I need?
Hi there.
I’m building a PC fan and I’m putting a variable resistor on it to control voltage. I want full throttle 24v on one side of the potentiometer/variable resistor and 0v (off) on the other. What resistance will I need?
10 points if you can give me a formula too.
The formula your looking for is V=IR where I is the current. Assuming that your current is constant your resistor would have to have an infinite resistance in order to get V=0.
May I suggest using a diode. This (provided you have it set up in the right direction in your circuit) will get the value of the current as close to 0 as you can hope to achieve.
