What’s the point of a USB Hard Drive enclosure?
I’m planning on buying either a 500GB, 750GB or 1TB external hard drive for my laptop. Mostly to store movies on; in the future will store games (i’m becoming a programmer and game designer). I was wondering what the point of buying an external hard drive enclosure is? Some of them seem to be pretty spendy. Is there a real good reason to have one on your external hard drive?
At the very least when you have a caddy or enclosure to keep your external hard drive in you reduce the risk of discharging static electricity from your body and if you do not wipe your drive you may even kill it.
Static electricity can build up in a number of ways, one of which is simply walking around on a windy day. The wind blowing over your skin is enough to supply a noticeable discharge on most things metal.
