is there a DVD player that will display 1080i using component (RGB) connections?
Ok. I have a projector that accepts a 15 pin (VGA- labeled “computer in”) connection. It has NO HDMI, DVI, or other digital outputs. I used an adapter to run component from my projector, to my reciever, then to my Comcast cable HD box. Excellent picture producing 1080i. Same component cable run from projector, Thru receiver to DVD player displays 480i/480p. Good picture. I’ve heard of “Helios” or “OPPO” players that are supposed to play DVDs 1080i, But now Im reading that on most DVDs because of copywrite issues, they will only display 480p. Do I have to trash my Projector beacause of some stupid HDMI input I need? Has anyone else used an older projector and gotten 1080i/p from DVDs? I cant be the ONLY one who has this issue.
You have a PC Display/projector and you expect to use it as a home theater projector!! That’s not its main purpose.
It was color calibrated for power point slides not HD video.
You don’t even tell us what is the native resolution of that projecto, it may not even be HD. 1080i is actually 540 lines, which is not very far from 480p.
In any case, you are correct, due to legal constrains, you can’t get out of component more than 480p. However, even at 480p input, your projector may be smart enough to do its own upscaling to 1080i, so no harm done.
