9v battery gets real hot.real hot!?
2 questions.
1) I hooked up a 9v battery to couple of LEDs along with resisters in every LEDs. it lights up but the battery gets REAL hot. is the normal for 9v battery? or am i doing something wrong?
2) i also want to use Rocker switch with LED on it(has three legs. power,Load, ground). I hooked up the two positive in to load part(middle) and two grounds to ground section. the switch does the job but LED wont go on and it seems when LED part on the switch is in up position it goes on rather than down position. how do i fix this.

to be more detailed, I am using 5 leds which is 5000 mcd , 5mm , resisters that came with theese LEDs which is good enough for 12v.
when I connect just the wires with out the switch, it don’t get hot. it just gets hot when I try to hook them on to the rocker switch. am i using the wrong switch? should I use rocker switches that doesnt have leds on them?(two legs).
If you drain current out of any battery too fast, it will get hot. How many LED’s do you have wired to the battery? A 9 volt battery is rated for about 100 mA. This is only 5 LED’s at 20 mA each.
You have a few options. You can make a 9 volt battery pack out of 6 1.5 volt batteries that have a higher current rating. Or you can series up to 4 LED and use a 5 ohm resistor in series with the 4 LED’s. This circuit would still only take 20 mA and reduce the current draw from your battery.

If the battery doesn’t get hot without the switch, you must have the switch connected wrong. The thing about switches with indicators in them is that they are confusing to connect. One of the connections has to be a ground for the indicator to light up. Use a switch without anything fancy and you shouldn’t have any problem. Cut just one of the wires between the battery and the LED’s and hook the cut ends to the 2 connectors on the switch. Drop me another note if you have any more questions.
