What is better for SoundAcoustic insulation between floors? Batts or Rigid Polyurathane Sheets?
I want to deaden the sound between floors in condos.
Is regular R-19 6.25 inch thick batt fiberglass insulation the best option or is a Polyurethane 4X8 Sheet rated as R-5 or R-6 better for sound insulation???
It would be installed in the ceilings of the condos.
Neither product will do much good. 1) They are not dense enough to deaden sound, and 2) sound would easily get around them anyway as it travels through the floors, then the floor joists, and then to the ceiling below. Reducing sound levels is very tricky in an existing structure though it can be done. Check this out and you’ll see what I mean:

Probably the easiest method you could use is to place dense carpeting over a dense carpet pad in the room. There are some specialized acoustical products that could go under the pad to improve sound resistance further but they’re expensive. However, if you will be placing drywall on the ceiling of the lower room, there’s a relatively new product that might help a lot–it’s a type of sound-deadening drywall. Haven’t used it yet myself but the mfg claims are impressive enough to investigate. Link below.
