Film Resistors

SMD thick Film Resistor 100 ohm?

Hi, i want to change a thick film resistor in a pair of GHD hair straightners, how do i go about getting the the right information so i can replace it. all i know is that it is 100 ohm, SIZE 6 x 3 x 0.5 mm.

this is what’s printed on the straightners: 110 – 230vac, 60Hz / 50Hz, 120w

im unsure of wattage, volt, tolerence etc

If you are sure it is 100 ohms, not 1000 ohms, you could use a normal 1/4 watt resistor with leads, if you have enough space there to tack-solder it in. I doubt the tolerance or voltage is an issue.

SMD devices take special soldering and de-soldering equipment, and frankly, it’s cheaper to get a new appliance.

I’m surprised that a 100 ohm resistor would be found inside a hair straightner, I though it was just a heater. Perhaps the resistor is ballast for a LED.

You should investigate what caused the resistor to become defective before replacing it. The odds of a resistor failing on it’s own are astronomical. I’ve never seen that happen in many decades of experience.
